Hypnosis is a term derived from the Greek word for sleep. Hypnosis is very relaxing. However, you never lose awareness during hypnosis. When you are hypnotized, you continue to be aware of your surroundings. Everyone has experienced hypnosis. For example, daydreaming is a hypnotic state.

The American Psychological Association describes hypnosis as a cooperative interaction in which the participant responds to the suggestions of the hypnotist. Hypnosis is clinically proven to provide medical and therapeutic benefits, most notably in the reduction of pain, anxiety, weight loss, phobias, smoking and alcohol cessation and other behavioral change needs. Hypnosis is helpful to achieve general self-improvement goals.

The subconscious mind is considered to be the source or root of many of our behaviors, emotions, attitudes and motivations. Hypnosis is believed to be a powerful tool for accessing the subconscious mind and creating dramatic improvements in our lives.

During your hypnotherapy session you will remain completely aware of everything that is going on. In fact, many people experience a hyper awareness where sounds appear enriched, thoughts clearer and your ability to imagine and visualize is greatly enhanced. Many describe the hypnotic state as a complete and total escape from all physical tension and emotional stress, while remaining completely alert. During hypnosis, your body relaxes and your thoughts become more focused. Like other relaxation techniques, hypnosis lowers blood pressure and heart rate, and changes certain types of brain wave activity. In this relaxed state, you will feel at ease physically yet fully awake mentally and may be highly responsive to suggestion. Your conscious mind becomes less alert and your subconscious mind becomes more focused. Some people respond better to hypnotic suggestion than others.
